Hec Ramsey is a full- length American western series starring Richard Boone in the title role as a lawman in a small town in Oklahoma in the early 20th century. The total of ten episodes were broadcast from 1972 to 1974 as part of the NBC Mystery Movie, alternating with the series Columbo , McCloud and McMillan & Wife .

action

Hector "Hec" Ramsey is a former gunslinger who developed an interest in forensics in his old days and in 1901 took over the position of deputy chief of police in the fictional town of New Prospect . His superior, the young and inexperienced Oliver Stamp, is initially hostile to him. He considers him a relic from the times of the Wild West and fears that his reputation as a gunslinger could cause unnecessary trouble. Ramsey's deliberate approach and his progressive methods such as taking fingerprints or ballistic shooting reports ultimately convince him. Other police officers include Constable Arne Tornquist, Constable Watson and Sgt. Juan Mendoza. Doctor Amos B. Coogan appears in almost all of the episodes.

background

Executive Producer Jack Webb personally offered Richard Boone the role of Hec Ramsey. In contrast to Boone's previous western series Have Gun - Will Travel , this series was significantly less violent; Instead of shooting first and then asking questions, they worked here as a criminalist - much to Boone's displeasure, of whom numerous outbursts of anger on the set have been handed down.

Directed by Harry Morgan, George Marshall , Richard Quine and Andrew V. McLaglen among others . Guest roles have starred Steve Forrest , Claude Akins , Stuart Whitman , Robert Foxworth , Kurt Russell , Don Stroud and Richard Jordan ; as well as Stella Stevens , Angie Dickinson and Diana Muldaur . In addition, numerous well-known western faces appeared in the series, including Robert Fuller , Rory Calhoun , Pat Hingle , Keenan Wynn and Harry Carey Jr.

The series has not yet premiered on German television.
