Richard "Rick" Palmer Lenz (born November 21, 1939 in Springfield , Illinois ) is an American actor .

Life

Lenz grew up in Jackson , Michigan . After studying acting at the University of Michigan and performing in the repertoire system during the semester break , he moved to New York City . It made its Broadway debut in 1965, but the production of Mating Dance was canceled after its first performance. In the same year he got a job as a substitute in the original production of Abe Burrowss Cactus Flower with Lauren Bacall in the lead role. Lenz appeared in various smaller roles, including as Igor Sullivan. In 1969 the play was filmed as Die Kaktusblüte with Walter Matthau , Ingrid Bergman and Goldie Hawn , with Lenz as Igor in its feature film premiere .

As a result, Lenz did not have a great film career; he was rarely seen in major feature film productions, including supporting roles in the western The Last Sniper alongside John Wayne and in Jonathan Demme's tragic comedy Melvin and Howard . Over the next few decades, however, he received numerous television engagements and was seen as a guest star in various television genres; including crime series like Der Chef , prime-time soaps like Der Denver-Clan and action series like Airwolf . Between 1972 and 1974 he played the role of Police Chief Oliver Stamp on the side of Richard Boone in the NBC Mystery Movie broadcast western series Hec Ramsey .

Between 1966 and 1977 Lenz was married to the daughter of Claude Rains for the second time . The marriage had three children. He has had his third marriage since 1982.
