Wheel series

The term wheel series , also called wheel show , describes a format in American television in which several different television series alternately run at the same broadcast time and thus form a unit, often under a common name, the so-called umbrella title (derived from the English Term for umbrella ). With the variant, the different series are not marketed as independent, but the higher-level format.

The most well-known form of the wheel series were the NBC Mystery Movies in the USA, where different TV series alternately ran at the same time under the same title from 1971. In the first version, these were A Sheriff in New York , Columbo and McMillan & Wife . After the great success of the wheel series under the umbrella title The NBC Mystery Movie (u. A. 14th place in the TV viewing figures 1971/72) various series were marketed independently and known worldwide, so in addition Columbo z. B. Quincy .
