Montauk project

This AN / FPS-35 radar is a core element of the conspiracy theory of the “Montauk Project”.

As Montauk project is, according to a popular conspiracy theory a series of alleged secret attempts by the US government called that at the military airfield Camp Hero in Montauk on Long Iceland to have been carried out.

The conspiracy theory began in the 1992 book The Montauk Project: Experiments in Time by Preston Nichols . He claimed that in the 1970s and 1980s, a radar system at Camp Hero , which was closed in 1969, attempted to influence the minds of millions of Americans, even remotely control them. Nichols published several serial volumes that portrayed the alleged secret program of the US government as more and more extensive and ramified and also brought them into connection with the Philadelphia Experiment . The books reached a circulation of over 100,000 copies. Numerous alleged victims of the experiments came forward, books by other authors appeared on the subject, and a large number of websites dealing with the subject can be found on the Internet.

Few of the claims that Nichols makes in his books on this subject can be substantiated.

reception

Elements of the conspiracy theory are taken up in the youth book Justin Time - The Montauk case by Peter Schwindt . Musically, the theme was dealt with by Galerie Schallschutz with the album Montauk Project . The documentary film Montauk Chronicles (2014) by filmmaker Christopher P. Garetano takes up the topic. The many theories were also the inspiration for the series Stranger Things , which was originally planned under the project name "Montauk" and played instead of the fictional town of Hawkins on Long Island .
