The Monte Xagó (German roughly: Xagoer Berg ) is a 105 meter high mountain in the area of the municipality of Gozón , in Asturias , in northern Spain . It is located directly on the coast of the Cantabrian Sea at the northeast end of Playa de Xagó . Here its northwest flank drops steeply to the beach and dominates the backdrop of this stretch of coast. The summit area is more like a kind of plateau. This is where the village of Xagó, known as Casas de Xagó , is located. The mountain is part of the Cabo de Peñas Protected Landscape Area . The name of the mountain is derived from the tiny village of Xagó, which, in addition to the beach mentioned, also gave its name to the bay in front of it, the Ensenada de Xago . The slopes of the mountain are steep towards the sea and softer towards the land. The Monte Xagó is unforested and, in addition to rocky areas with no vegetation, otherwise has grass. Due to its dominance, from the top of the mountain you have a wide view of the sea, the Playa de Xagó and the dunes of Xagó . A well-known hiking route runs over the summit from the Ria des Aviles to Punta Llampero , the highest point of which is located here.
