L'International des Feux Loto-Québec
L'International des Feux Loto-Québec , also known as the Montreal Fireworks Festival , is a major international fireworks competition; at the beginning it was called Le Mondial SAQ and L'International Benson & Hedges . It has been held annually at La Ronde amusement park in Montreal since 1985 and is named after the main sponsor Loto-Québec . An estimated three million viewers watch this event every year.
Every summer eight or nine pyrotechnic companies from different nations present a 30-minute music-synchronized fireworks display . For the 20th anniversary in 2004, the eight previous Jupiter Gold winners competed for the (one-time) Platinum Jupiter Trophy in June and July. It was won by the German fireworks company WECO .
The competition, which usually starts at the end of June and ends in late July, is structured in such a way that a team presents a fireworks show every seven days. The fireworks are synchronized with music broadcast by a radio station (2005 RockDétente, since 2006 Rythme FM). Spectators in La Ronde must pay admission.
