The company was founded in 1920 by Leonhard Moos as a wholesaler for butter, eggs and cheese. In 1984, the successors of the owner-managed company, Alfons and Gertrud Butzen, began to focus on international marketing of chicken eggs. In 2001 the company merged with the Dutch Gebr. Van Beek Holding , but continues to operate under its original name.
