Mor stone

The Mor Stone (also known as the Standing Stone of Shapinsay ) is a lichen -strewn Neolithic menhir on the Quholm Moor, in the southeast of the Orkney island of Shapinsay, in Scotland .

Mor stone

The Mor Stein is an upright standing menhir about 2.9 meters high, in a field that is somewhat separated from the cultivated areas of the island. Before 1928 it was overturned and later raised again, losing its upper part in the process. In 1796 it was recorded as 3.66 m high. The width averages 0.95 m and the thickness 0.45 m.

Shapinsay is one of the Orkney's large inner islands and is located about two miles north of Mainland . Castle Bloody is located southeast of the Mor Stein ( German  "large stone" ). A few miles north is Burroughston Broch, close to the sea . On the island there is also the Odin Stone, which is unclear whether it is a boulder or a menhir .
