The family Morris from Galway is one of those 14 families that the Tribes of Galway ( English Tribes of Galway are called) and for centuries the city and the surrounding countryside in County Galway in the Republic of Ireland dominated.

The Morris family appears in Galway in 1485. The name was then spelled “Mares”. It later became Morech and was given its current form.

There is nothing special in the files relating to this family. Some of its namesake, however, were the mayor (Willam Morris 1527/28, Andrew Morris 1588/89) and sheriff (Martin Morris 1841, Michael Morris 1849, Georg Morris 1860) of Galway.

The Morris now have properties in Galway and Spiddal .

A roundabout in Galway is named after the family.
