Morris Pejoe

Morris Pejoe (born April 11, 1924 in Palmetto , Louisiana, † July 27, 1982 in Detroit , Michigan), actually Morris Pejas , was an American blues guitarist and band leader. He was the mentor of blues pianists Henry Gray and Otis Spann .

Born in Louisiana, Pejoe first played the violin. In the late 1940s he moved to Beaumont , Texas, where he began to play the guitar. He often performed with the pianist Henry Gray, with whom he went to Chicago in the early 1950s .

In 1952 Pejoe made his first recordings, accompanied by Gray among others. Numerous more recordings should follow. Let's Get High is one of his most successful titles . In 1989 a compilation of Pejoe pieces appeared under the name Wrapped in My Baby .

In the 1960s, Pejoe was often accompanied by his wife, blues singer Mary Lane. Her daughter Lynne Lane and son Morris Pejoe Jr. also sing the blues.
