Moscow Square

The Moscow square ( Russian площадь Московская , Moskovskaya ploschtschad ) is the largest square of St. Petersburg . It was created in the course of the general plan of 1935, which provided for the relocation of Leningrad city center here, to the south. On the east side of the square is the house of the Soviets by the architect Noi Trotsky , which was supposed to house the administration of the city. A statue of Lenin by the sculptor Mikhail Anikushin has stood in the center of the square since 1970 .
