The Moscow University for the Humanities ( Russian Московский гуманитарный университет (МосГУ) ; English: Moscow University for the Humanities) is the first private university in Russia , which was founded after 1990.

history

The university was founded in 1944 as the Central School of the Komsomol . In April 1969 it became the Komsomol College - an elite institution and cadre forge for the Central Committee and other governing bodies of the Komsomol, as well as for communist youth organizations from other countries around the world. Due to a large proportion of foreigners, the university enjoyed more freedom in the Soviet era and was regarded as the most liberal university in the country in the late 1980s. In 1987 Boris Yeltsin spoke to the public again for the first time after resigning all of his offices. In 1990 the Komsomol University was restructured into the first non-governmental and self-governing university and renamed the Youth Institute (FH). Around 32,000 people studied here between 1969 and 1990. In 1991 the first new faculty was opened here - the Faculty of Social Work and Management, where social work was taught for the first time in Russia. In 1999, the UNESCO Director General Federico Mayor Zaragoza named the territory of the university the territory of the culture of peace. In 2000, the youth institute was renamed the Moscow Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences . In 2003 the college became the Moscow University of Humanities .

Subjects

The university has six faculties: economics , law , international relations, advertising , cultural studies and tourism , social work and psychology . Around 8,000 students are currently enrolled. The following state-recognized degrees are currently possible: Bachelor, Master, Diploma, Dr., Dr. habil.

Cooperations

In Russia, the university cooperates closely with the National Institute of Economics . Important international partner universities are located in China, Great Britain, Sweden, France and the Netherlands. In Germany, the university cooperates with the West-East Institute Berlin.

science

The sociological center of the university has been particularly well known since the Soviet era. The university also has the Institute for Fundamental and Applied Research, the Russian Intellectual Club and the International Research Center of Alexander Zinoviev , who worked here for the last years of his life. The university publishes two scientific journals: “Snanie. Ponimanie. Umenie ”and“ Scientific Works of the University ”.
