The Rarotonga Bush Reserve covers the remains of the base of Mount Smart

Mount Smart is one of the volcanoes of the Auckland Volcanic Field . The cinder cone was once 87 m high, it rose 57 m above the surrounding area. On it was a Pā of the Māori who called him Rarotonga . The hill was largely eroded by quarries, and today the Mount Smart Stadium stands in its place .
