Mowag aircraft tractor
The Mowag aircraft tractor is a military vehicle from Switzerland .
History and Development
In cooperation with AEG , Mowag built 37 aircraft tugs called “Flz Schl sch 4 × 2” for the Swiss Air Force . The vehicles were used to maneuver the Mirage IIIS and Mirage IIIRS in and out of the aircraft caverns and at the same time start their on-board systems.
A special feature compared to the other aircraft tugs (e.g. Bucher aircraft tugs ) was that with these examples, the aircraft could be detached from the tow bar and from the system supply while driving, around the time between leaving the cavern and taking off the Mirage keep it short. The Mirage began to start its engine as soon as it left the tunnel. After the engine had started and the functional tests had been completed, the aircraft tractor driver disengaged the aircraft and accelerated to make the Mirage a free run on the taxiway to the runway. The aircraft tugs were in service with the Swiss Air Force from 1967 to 2003.
The Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport had the vehicle under the type license number: 50-0326, data sheet no / code: 31'830 Designation: Flz Schl sch 4 × 2 AEG-Mowag. One copy is exhibited in the Swiss Military Museum Full .
