history

Coat of arms of the baronial family

The family comes from the primeval nobility of Picardy with headquarters in Moÿ-de-l'Aisne. His lineage begins with Guidon de Moÿ, who appears in a document on May 29, 1133. It was initially divided into the two lines Moÿ and Sons. The older line received the title of marquise in 1578 . After the Moÿs died out at the beginning of the 18th century, the Sons line added that of the Moÿs to its name: de Moÿ de Sons . Descendants of this line still live in France today.

Charles Antoine Chevalier de Moÿ was the first of his name in Bavaria. He fled France during the French Revolution, first came to Mainz and in 1798 to Munich. He was married to Elisabeth von Postel . In 1853 King Maximilian II Joseph of Bavaria recognized the baron status and in 1868 elevated the Moy de Sons to the rank of count. Also in 1853 the family received the diploma of recognition of the baron class in the Austrian Empire.

In 1873 King Ludwig II of Bavaria enfeoffed Count Carl Moy de Sons with Obenhausen . Through the daughter of Count Aloys von Arco-Stepperg , who died in 1891 , whose heir Sophie (1868–1952) was married to Count Ernst von Moy, the Stepperg and Anif castles came into the family's possession. The family of the Counts von Moy de Sons still owns Schloss Obenhausen , Schloss Stepperg , the Munich Palais Moy and Schloss Anif near Salzburg. From 1919 to 2005 the family also owned Tagmersheim Castle .
