Mpu Prapanca

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mpu Prapanca (from Pali : prapañca , dt. About "Monk 'Unlimited'") was the author of the epic Nagarakretagama , which was written in Old Javanese (ꦨꦴꦰꦏꦮꦶ Bhāṣa Kawi). Nothing is known about the author; the work tells the story of the Majapahit kingdom and other stories from ancient Hindu- Javanese principalities. The Buddhist bhikkhu Prapanca wrote the chronicle in 1365 (1287 in the Saka census ) as an eulogy for Hayam Wuruk , the ruler who brought Majapahit to the head of his power.
