Mroja ( Belarusian Мроя , in German "dreams") was a Belarusian rock band.

history

Mroja was founded in 1981 by Liawon Wolski ( Belarusian Ляво́н Арту́равіч Во́льскі ) and Uladzimer Dawydouski ( Belarusian Уладзімер Давыдоўскі ) at the Minsk Cultural Institute. Wolski sang and played on a Polish keyboard, Dawydouski first played the bass guitar, and later on a local electric guitar called "Formant". Shortly thereafter, an acquaintance of Dawydouski, Juras Laukou ( Belarusian Юрась Ляўкоў ) joined them, who took over the part of the bass guitar. In addition, Alezis Dzemidowich ( Belarusian Алезіс Дземідовіч ) entered and took over the drums. The group's first concert was called "Escalator" and took place on November 7, 1981. While in the beginning the songs of the group were drafted and performed in Russian, the group used the Belarusian language more and more on the initiative of Uladzimir Dawydouski. The music was created under the influence of groups like the Beatles and the Russian group Maschina Wremeni ( Russian Машина Времени ).

Due to disagreements within the group and because of competition from other, younger groups, the band members changed the group's name to NRM in 1994
