Mstislav Dawidowitsch (Russian Мстислав Давыдович or Давидович; baptismal name Fyodor / Theodor , Russian Фёдор; † 1230/31) was Prince of Smolensk from 1219/20 to 1230/31 .

Life

Mstislav was a son of Prince David of Smolensk and grandson of Prince Rostislav of Smolensk , who was also Grand Duke of Kiev. His predecessor Vladimir became Prince of Ovrutsch in 1219 and Grand Duke of Kiev in 1223. When Mstislav became his successor is unknown. In 1222 a prince of Smolensk conquered the principality of Polotsk and sent a messenger to Bishop Albrecht of Riga with a request for peace, the name was never mentioned. He was also not mentioned at the Battle of Kalka in 1223, although troops from Smolensk fought there.

In 1229 a prince of Smolensk stopped messengers from Novgorod in his city who actually wanted to go to Chernigov to ask the local prince Mikhail to come to him. In that year Mstislaw, son of Dawid, was named for the first time in a contract he had concluded with German and Gotland merchants on free trade in their areas. He also appeared there for the principalities of Polotsk and Vitebsk. He died in 1230 or early 1231 (the year 6738 ran from March 1230 to February 1231). He was succeeded in 1232 by his son Rostislav.
