The pink knot flower ( Acis rosea ) is a species of the genus Acis within the Amaryllis family (Amaryllidaceae). It stands out from the other Acis species with its pink flowers . It is relatively rarely cultivated as an ornamental plant. Together with the other Acis species, it was separated from the genus of knot flowers ( Leucojum ) and therefore a synonym for Leucojum roseum L.
description
Acis rosea is a perennial, herbaceous, geophytic plant that blooms in autumn. The flowers usually sit individually on upright, up to 15 cm high, dark green stems. They are either completely pink or at least have this species-typical coloration along the median nerve of the petals. They consist of six tepals and six stamens as well as a stylus . The ovary is subordinate and develops into a roundish split capsule that contains up to 20 of the black, shiny seeds . About the approach of the peduncle is a bract . Flowering time is from August to October.
The leaves sprout towards the end of or shortly after the end of the flowering period and are about 3 cm long. They are grass-like in appearance and dark green. They move back into the natural site in spring before the dry season begins.
The bulb grows up to 5 cm in size and is elongated at the tip, like the autumn knot flower ( Acis autumnalis ) and brownish.
distribution
Acis rosea is widespread in Corsica and Sardinia and grows there on dry, sandy and stony slopes in sun-exposed locations. The summer dry season is particularly important, as otherwise the onions will sprout too early.
use
The plant is sometimes in cultivation due to its unusual flowers for the genus, but has high demands on a dry summer and cool, damp, but not too cold winter.
