The Siege of Aledo

Life

In 1092 Muhammad ibn Aisha and his Almoravid army conquered Aledo and then Murcia after a successful siege . In Murcia he was initially installed as Wālī , but then ruled the city as governor until 1115.

A group of notables from Valencia , led by Qadi Ibn Gahhaf , asked him in 1092 to overthrow Yahya II al-Qadir and to rule the city in his place. Muhammad ibn Aisha did not pursue their offer, but instead attacked Dénia , Xàtiva and Alzira . It was only later that he besieged and conquered Valencia (1092 to 1094) in order to assert it against El Cid , but was ousted from the city by the latter on June 15.

It was not until 1102 that Valencia fell back into the hands of the Almoravids, who were then able to turn their attention north. In 1114, Muhammad ibn Aisha was at the head of an Almoravid army that set out in the direction of Llobregat in order to regain territories lost to the Christians in Catalonia . The army strengthened with the troops of Muhammad ibn al-Hajj from Saragossa suffered in the battle of Martorell against that of Raimund Berengar III. Christian armies from the counties of Barcelona , Urgell and Cerdanya commanded a crushing defeat and were put to flight.

After 1114, Muhammad ibn Aisha lost sight of history, but it is very likely that he withdrew to North Africa to the court of Ali ibn Yusuf .
