The Mulivai Cathedral was the seat of the Roman Catholic diocese in Apia , the capital of Samoa .

history

The Catholic parishes and church buildings on Upolu were built from the middle of the 19th century through the work of Marist Fathers .

location

The Mulivai Cathedral with its two massive towers and the striking white facade was the symbol of the city of Apia. It was on Beach Road , the city's main thoroughfare, near the tourist office and the Government Building Complex . The cathedral was built in 1885 and demolished in March 2011. A new cathedral is due to be completed on the same site in 2012.
