The Erzbistum Samoa Apia ( lat. : Archidioecesis Samoa Apianus ) is an in Samoa preferred Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Apia .
history
The Archdiocese of Samoa-Apia was founded on August 20, 1850 by Pope Pius IX. from the cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate Central Oceania as the Apostolic Vicariate Archipelago of Navigators established. On January 4, 1957, the Vicariate Apostolic Archipelago of the Navigators was renamed the Vicariate Apostolic Samoa and Tokelau .
The Apostolic Vicariate of Samoa and Tokelau was on June 21, 1966 by Pope Paul VI. with the Apostolic Constitution Prophetarum voces raised to the diocese and renamed the diocese of Apia . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Suva as a suffragan . On August 10, 1974, the Apia diocese was renamed the Apia, Samoa and Tokelau Diocese . The diocese of Apia, Samoa and Tokelau was renamed on December 3, 1975 in the Diocese of Samoa and Tokelau . On September 10, 1982, the Diocese of Samoa and Tokelau were parts of its territory to the founding of the Apostolic Constitution quidem Studiose erected diocese Samoa Pago Pago from.
The diocese of Samoa and Tokelau was elevated to an archbishopric on September 10, 1982 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Maiorem ad utilitatem and renamed the Archdiocese of Samoa-Apia and Tokelau . On June 26, 1992, the Archdiocese of Samoa-Apia and Tokelau was divided into the Archdiocese of Samoa-Apia and the Mission sui juris Tokelau .
