The Roman Catholic Diocese of Rarotonga ( lat. : Dioecesis Rarotonganus ) is on the Cook Islands situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Avarua .
history
The diocese of Rarotonga was on November 27, 1922 by Pope Pius XI. established from the cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate Tahiti as Apostolic Prefecture Cook Islands and Manihiki . On August 11, 1926, was Apostolic Prefecture Cook Islands and Manihiki in apostolic prefecture Cook Islands renamed. The Cook Islands Apostolic Prefecture was founded on February 12, 1948 by Pope Pius XII. with the Apostolic Constitution Congruum sane raised to the Apostolic Vicariate .
The Vicariate Apostolic Cook Islands was founded on June 21, 1966 by Pope Paul VI. with the Apostolic Constitution Prophetarum voces raised to the diocese and renamed the Diocese of Rarotonga . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Suva as a suffragan .
