Alapati Lui Mataeliga (born January 4, 1953 in Sataua ) is a Samoan clergyman and archbishop of Samoa-Apia .

Life

The Bishop of Apia, Pio Cardinal Taofinu'u SM , consecrated him July 5, 1977 for priests .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Samoa- Apia on November 16, 2002 . The Apostolic Nuncio to New Zealand , Samoa, Tonga , Marshall Islands , Fiji , Kiribati , the Federated States of Micronesia , Vanuatu , Nauru , Cook Islands and Palau , Archbishop Patrick Coveney , donated him episcopal ordination on January 3 of the next year ; Co- consecrators were Petero Mataca , Archbishop of Suva , and Soane Lilo Foliaki , Bishop of Tonga .

In September 2018, Pope Francis also appointed him Superior of Tokelau .
