Patrick Coveney

Patrick Coveney (born July 29, 1934 in Cork ) is a retired Irish diplomat from the Holy See .

Life

By the auxiliary bishop in Rome , Luigi Traglia , he received in the February 21, 1959 Lateran Basilica , the ordination . From January 1960 he taught at St. Finbarr's Seminary in Farranferris before he was called to Rome in September 1966 to work in the Vatican State Secretariat .

Pope John Paul II appointed him on July 27, 1985 Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Zimbabwe and Titular Archbishop of Satrianum . The Cardinal Prefect of the Administration of Goods of the Apostolic See and Cardinal Secretary of State , Cardinal Agostino Casaroli , donated him episcopal ordination on September 15 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Gaetano Alibrandi , Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland, and Michael Murphy , Bishop of Cork and Ross .

On January 25, 1990 Patrick Coveney was appointed Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Ethiopia and on March 26, 1992 as Apostolic Delegate in Djibouti . On April 27, 1996 he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio in New Zealand , Samoa , Tonga , and the Marshall Islands , and on October 15, 1996 as Apostolic Nuncio to Fiji , Kiribati and the Federated States of Micronesia , and on December 7, 1996 Apostolic Nuncio in Nauru and also on July 14, 2001 as Apostolic Nuncio to the Cook Islands and Palau . On January 25, 2005 he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Greece.

Popost Benedict XVI. accepted his retirement on July 16, 2009.
