Multidimensional self-esteem scale

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The multidimensional self-esteem scale ( MSWS ) is a psychological questionnaire for the multidimensional assessment of facets of self-esteem . The theoretical basis is the multi-facet model by Shavelson, Huber and Stanton from 1976. The overall scale (GSW) is made up of 32 questions , whereby six facets can be distinguished, to which five to seven questions are assigned. The six self-esteem scales are:

  • Emotional self-esteem (ESWS)
  • Social self-esteem: safety in contact (SWKO)
  • Social self-esteem: dealing with criticism (SWKR)
  • Performance-related self-esteem (LSWS)
  • Self-esteem physical attractiveness (SWPA)
  • Self-esteem for sportiness (SWSP)

The first four are combined into a general self-esteem scale (ASW) and the last two into a body-related self-esteem scale (KSW).

development

From the Feelings of Inadequacy Scale (FIS) by Janis and Field from 1959, Fleming and Courtney developed the Multidimensional Self-Concept Scale (MSCS) in 1984. The multidimensional self-esteem scale is a German-language adaptation and further development by Schütz and Sellin from 2006.

Alternative questionnaires

Another questionnaire for measuring self- esteem is the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES).
