Multi-format sensor is a name for electronic image sensors in digital cameras , which differ from other concepts in that they offer the same diagonal angle of view for the selectable recording formats .

At the same time, with the given image circle of the lenses used , they allow maximum utilization of the sensor area, regardless of the aspect ratio set .

In 2009, Panasonic introduced the Lumix DMC-GH1, the first system camera of the Micro Four Thirds standard to feature such a multi-format sensor.
