Johann Jeremias von Renouard (born July 30, 1742 in Berlin , † December 30, 1810 in Spandau ) was a Prussian major general and chief of infantry regiment No. 3 .

Life

origin

Renouard came from a Huguenot family who came to Brandenburg under Friedrich Wilhelm . He was the son of the councilor and director of the French colony in Potsdam Franz von Renouard (1710–1796) and his wife Susanna Elisabeth, née de Felix (1709–1792).

Military career

On the orders of King Friedrich II. Renouard was employed on July 11, 1756 as a Junker in the Infantry Regiment "von Anhalt" of the Prussian Army due to his aristocratic origin . He fought in the Seven Years War near Prague and Kay , where he was wounded. On September 21, 1759 he was captured in a battle near Korbitz . He stayed there until the end of the war. Captain and company commander since June 20, 1775 , he then took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession as such in 1778/79 . On May 27, 1785 he was promoted to major and two years later he became chief of the fusilier battalion No. 18, which from this point also bore his name. In the same year Renouard fought with his battalion in the Netherlands.

On the occasion of the review near Magdeburg on May 28, 1789, King Friedrich Wilhelm II awarded him the order Pour le Mérite for the good discipline in his troops . On June 7, 1792 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel . As such, Renouard took part in the fighting at Valmy , Châlons, Hocheim, Bingen, Alsheim and Wachenheim and the blockade of Landau during the First Coalition War. On January 24, 1794 he became a colonel and commander of the infantry regiment "von Reitzenstein" . The king appointed him on October 1, 1799 chief of the infantry regiment "von Thadden". On May 20, 1800 he was promoted to major general. Renouard fought in the Battle of Auerstedt in 1806 and was seriously wounded. Then he came to Magdeburg and when the fortress surrendered to the French, he too signed the contract. Because of his role in the surrender, he was tried after the Peace of Tilsit on November 19, 1809 before a court martial and sentenced to two years imprisonment. He was imprisoned in the fortress Spandau , but Renouard was allowed to move to the city on January 25, 1810 because of his poor health. There he died at the end of the year and was buried on January 3, 1811 in the garrison cemetery.

Renouard had married on October 24, 1776 in Mukrena Marie von Kotze (1758-1785). The following children were born from the marriage:

After her death, he married Auguste von Witzleben (1761-1830). The following children were born from the marriage:
