Multiprotocol over ATM

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Multiprotocol encapsulation over ATM (MPoA) is a communication protocol for IP data traffic by data encapsulation efficiently via one ATM to transport -based network.

Since no LAN - emulation is taking place, layer 3 protocols (according to the OSI model ) is directly the mechanisms of ATM use (for example, bandwidth reservation).

With DSL , ADSL or T-DSL , the protocol is used to provide connections with several public IP addresses (or entire subnets ). The PPPoE and PPPoA protocols are not able to do this.

The protocol distinguishes between bridged and routed , as well as LLC and VC-Mux.
