The Mumuye is the most important of the Adamawa languages in West Africa and is in northeast Nigeria and Northwest Cameroon by the people of Mumuye spoken.
It is currently included in the Leko-Nimbari language group within the Savannah language group. This in turn belongs to the Niger-Congo language family .
There are numerous dialects of Mumuye: Zing, Dong, Yoro, Lankaviri, Gola (Bajama), Gongla, Kasaa, Saawa, Jalingo, Nyaaja, Jeng, Gnoore, Yaa, Sagbee, Shaari, Kugong, Mang, Kwaji, Meeka and Yakoko .
