A mud brake (also mud brake ) is a structure to protect against mudslides . The construction principle is a horizontal rake which is installed at a suitable point in the outflow of an expected debris flow. Through this rake, all the smaller parts fall while the larger rocks remain on top. As a result, the larger masses are separated from the "more fluid" part with a correspondingly large proportion of pushing force, effectively slowing down the run and damming up the mud. For example, a Murbremse was installed in 1992 in Randa VS , in the Swiss Mattertal, based on the Japanese model.
