The Musée Cognacq-Jay is a Parisian art museum that goes back to Marie-Louise Jaÿ (1838–1925) and her husband Ernest Cognacq (1839–1928) .

The founders and owners of the La Samaritaine department store built up a large collection of valuable furniture and art objects between 1900 and 1925. Since the couple were childless, Cognacq donated the collection to the city of Paris in 1928.

The Musée Cognacq-Jay contains works by François Boucher , Jean-Honoré Fragonard , Jean-Baptiste Greuze , Maurice Quentin de La Tour , Sir Thomas Lawrence , Hubert Robert , Giovanni Battista Tiepolo , and Jean-Antoine Watteau , among others . The museum was initially located on the Boulevard des Capucines and since 1990 in the Hôtel Donon, rue Elzévir nr. 8 in the 3rd arrondissement .
