The Musée Franck A. Perret is a geological museum in Saint-Pierre on the French Caribbean island of Martinique . It is located on Rue Victor-Hugo and had 32,621 visitors in 2007. The museum goes back to an initiative of the volcanologist Frank A. Perret , who gave it to the inhabitants of the city in 1932 - with a subsidy of 30,000 francs from the Ministry of Colonies . In honor of it, it got its name in later years. The museum is exclusively dedicated to the history of Saint-Pierre in connection with the devastating eruption of the nearby Montagne Pelée volcano in 1902, which destroyed the entire city and killed almost all residents. Perret's wish was that the house should both remember and educate.

The deformed church bell

The majority of the finds recovered from the rubble after the eruption, as well as numerous photographs of the volcano and other documents are shown. One of the most important exhibits is the bell of the Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption de Saint-Pierre cathedral, melted by the heat of the glowing cloud of that time .
