The ancon (a) eus muscle ( Latin for "elbow hump muscle " or "elbow muscle ") is a skeletal muscle on the forearm and one of the extensors of the elbow joint . It is a small, roughly triangular muscle that is partially covered by the triceps brachii muscle and lies on the back of the elbow joint. Another function of the muscle is pronation around a changed axis of movement (as an extension of the index finger), e.g. B. when turning a screw in or out. It also tensions the joint capsule of the elbow joint and prevents it from becoming trapped in the olecranon fossa during extension.
