The extensor digitorum brevis muscle ( Latin for "short toe extensor") is one of the skeletal muscles on the back of the foot . It arises on the upper surface of the heel bone (calcaneus) and, to a lesser extent, on the lateral (outer) side of the heel bone. The insertion is made with three partial tendons on the dorsal aponeurosis of the 2nd to 4th toe. A further partial tendon also rarely runs to the 5th toe.

The extensor digitorum brevis muscle stretches the 2nd to 4th toe.
