The flexor digiti minimi brevis muscle of the foot ( Latin for "short little toe flexor") has a common origin with the opposing little toe ( muscle opponens digiti minimi ) at:
- the plantar (lower) side of the base of the 5th metatarsal,
- the long sole ligament ( ligamentum plantare longum ),
- the tendon sheath of the long fibula muscle ( peronaeus longus ).
The approach takes place at the base of the base of the little toe. The muscle flexes and abducts ( outwardly spreading ) the little toe in its base joint.
