The levator labii superioris alaeque nasi muscle ("lifter of the upper lip and nostril ") is a delicate skin muscle of the nose and upper lip that belongs to the facial muscles . It arises from the frontal process of the upper jaw and attaches to the skin on the side of the ala and the upper lip.

The M. labii superioris alaeque nasi pulls the upper lip upwards and widens the nostril on the same side and thus enables people to “bar their teeth”.
