Museo Llorenç Villalonga

The Museo Llorenç Villalonga is a public museum in the municipality of Binissalem on the Balearic island of Mallorca .

The museum is located in the city center of Binsissalem. The building is also known as Casa Can Sabater and was built in the 15th century, expanded and renovated several times. The well-known writer  Llorenç Villalonga lived and worked there during the Spanish Civil War and then used the casa as a residence in the summer months until his death in 1980.

Today's museum was opened on May 28, 1999 and is largely furnished with furniture and furnishings from the life of the Villalonga family. On the ground floor there is a lecture hall, the former study, office and the typical Mallorcan kitchen equipment. A permanent exhibition has been set up on the first floor, reporting on the poet's life. Photos, personal items, letters, manuscripts, postcards, books, newspaper articles and videos give an insight into the world of the famous intellectual. The museum also houses a library with a collection of over two thousand volumes by Llorenç Villalonga and a reading room.

The operator of the museum is the Fundació Casa Museu Llorenç Villalonga .

The under protection (patrimonio histórico) building with wine cellar and a press house from the 15th century was acquired by the island council of Mallorca in December 1996. After a foundation was set up, it was opened as a museum house on May 28, 1999. From 1998 to 1999 the museum house and the winery belonging to it were renovated by the Consell de Mallorca as part of the “Restauració del Medi Rural” program in compliance with the monument protection requirements, and the conference room, archive and documentation center were built. Various kinds of literary and cultural events are also held here.
