Antonello da Messina: Annunciation

The most important aspect of the museum is the Pinakothek with paintings mainly from the 15th to 17th centuries. Here are two important works by famous painters. They are Caravaggio's painting “The burial place of St. Lucia”, the patron saint of Syracuse. The Entombment of Caravaggio was made in 1609. And a painting by Antonello da Messina "Annunciation". The Annunciation by Antonello da Messina began in August 1474. In November 1474 the picture should be ready. The picture comes from the church in Palazzolo Acreide . The painting was damaged by frequent restorations.

The regional gallery also contains secular and sacred objects and statues from the Middle Ages. Nativity scenes from the 18th century to the present day and altar decorations are also on display. The exhibition of clay figurines from Caltagirone depicting scenes from the life of Sicily is interesting.
