The Museo dell'Emigrante della Repubblica di San Marino is a migration museum of the Republic of San Marino .

The “Emigrant Museum” opened in 1997 with the “Emigration Promotion Center” is located in the former monastery of Santa Clara in the city ​​of San Marino and is under the administration of the Capitani Reggenti . It is directed by the Office of the Secretary of State for Foreign and Political Affairs ( Segreteria di Stato per gli Affari Esteri e Politici ).

The exhibition preserves pictures, documents, video show and objects related to the emigration of the San Marines. Temporary exhibitions are also held in the museum rooms. The museum has a library with around 1,400 volumes and 400 individual documents on the history of the emigration of San Marines. The collection is supplemented by a film library with documentaries from the only television station in San Marino , the Italian station Rai 2 and UNESCO .

The center includes a computerized archive, which is divided into several thematic databases, the data includes among others:

  • 11,977 photos from passports and ID cards issued in San Marino between 1923 and 1961
  • 16,298 data from individual documents from the years 1856 to 1923
  • 1,550 dates from the registers of the emigration of the population of San Marino between 1835 and 1861
  • 5,914 individual documents relating to dates that were issued in San Marino between 1868 and 1923
  • 5,000 data from 1960 to 1985
  • 1,500 photos taken by contemporary witnesses from the years 1850 to 1990, as well as around 200 private and official letters, some with updated transcriptions of the texts.
