Museum 1900

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1900 Museum in Söchtenau in the Rosenheim district deals with living culture and the world of work at the turn of the century. Original furnishings from living spaces, shops and workshops from around 1900 are on display in Germany and Austria.

Museum concept

Each of the 30 or so facilities is provided with a separate room that offers an authentic impression without the need for museum preparation through accompanying texts or the use of modern media. The collection is limited to a clearly delimited temporal and local area, whereby better fitting previous exhibits are replaced and these are sold again if necessary.

history

Born in Hamburg, Wulf Dathe, as a lover of furniture from the turn of the century, collected equipment on various trips that form the basis of the collection. In 2012 he opened the museum in a former warehouse in Söchtenau. The basement, ground floor, first floor and attic were gradually expanded and the collection was added. An extension is planned for further facilities.
