The A Schiewesch Museum in Binsfeld ( Luxembourg ) focuses on village culture after 1725 and presents the working and living habits of its residents from three centuries.
history
Around 1600
The barn with built-in sheepfold was built in the 15th century. The building only served as a sheep farm (in the local Luxembourg Platt as " Schiefricht "). Since this sheep farm was built somewhat into a hill, the overlaid barn antenna could easily be filled with crops over this hill.
The small district was called "Op dër Schiefricht", which also made it possible to localize it, as there were several sheep farms in the village at that time.
Around 1600, "Op dër Schiefricht" owned a clee that came from the "Schul house" in Hüpperdingen and lived in the house opposite.
1725
Around 1725 the "Schiefricht" was transferred to Jean Toussaint as a result of the fraternal division of the estate, who added a gable house to the "Schiefricht". He took over the office of village shepherd, who was allowed to take his own flock down the hallway free of charge as a reward. His office also gave his house the name: "A Schiewesch", at Schäfers. This name has been preserved to this day, together with the valuable, very idiosyncratic and simple structure.
1910
In 1910 two rooms were added to the gable front and a new street front was created with the relocation of the front door. Smaller farm buildings at the back of the forecourt were enlarged in their current form after the Ardennes offensive in 1950.
2015
In 2015 the museum was opened in a new guise. The entrance area has become a “street of the region”, in which the visitor is introduced to the region after the reception, in order to then experience the individual subject areas in the other 20 rooms. Over 50 different areas are explained using exhibits and beautifully colored boards.
