The Van Buuren Museum is located in the former home of the banker and art patron David van Buuren in Brussels (avenue Léo Errera 41 / Leo Erreralaan 41).

Building and museum

Icarus fall

The house was built from 1924 to 1928 in the style of the Amsterdam School as the residence of the banker and art patron David van Buuren and his wife. It has housed the museum since 1975. The art deco interior consists of tapestries , furniture and glass art. The art collection includes paintings and sculptures from the 15th to the 20th century. The most famous painting from the collection of Flemish and Italian masters is the Fall of Icarus (Chute d'Icare) from 1590 to 1595. It is a variant of the landscape with the fall of Icarus in the Royal Museums of Fine Arts . The modern paintings include 32 paintings by Gustave van de Woestynes , whose patron was Van Buuren.

Gardens

The gardens, which are also open to the public, belong to the house, including the Jardin Pittoresque and the large rose garden La Grande Roseraie, the labyrinth and the Jardin du Coeur with its heart-shaped hedges.
