The Museum of the National Bank of Belgium is a banking museum in the National Bank of Brussels that was founded in 1982.

history

The National Bank has housed a museum since 1982. It was located on Rue du Bois Sauvage until 2013 , after which it temporarily moved to Boulevard de Berlaimont . It is slated to open at Warmoesberg 57 in 2018 .

collection

The museum shows the history of money . In addition, the tasks of a central bank in issuing money, maintaining its purchasing power and financial monitoring are dealt with at the beginning of various didactic presentations. In the museum, visitors can familiarize themselves with the history of means of payment, the role and importance of money in the economy, the tasks and activities of the National Bank of Belgium in a European context, the characteristics of euro banknotes and finally with money as a cultural phenomenon.
