Museum for Clocks, Jewelry and Art Frankfurt am Main
The Museum for Clocks, Jewelery and Art Frankfurt am Main , briefly known as the Frankfurt Clock and Jewelery Museum , is located in Frankfurt-Höchst on Dalbergplatz . The museum is housed in the Glockenspielhaus , a property on Hostatostraße . The museum is run by the non-profit association of the same name.
Due to water damage, the museum was closed for ten years from 1998. It was reopened in mid-December 2008 and has been open to the public several days a month since February 2009.
exhibition
The museum shows exhibits from several centuries in five exhibition rooms . Weapons, tools, coins and specialist literature of the time are shown to classify the exhibits in their respective epoch. The collection includes historical tower clocks , pocket watches from different countries, a gemstone cutting shop, counterfeit objects and a chronological sequence of clocks from the past to the present.
As a special feature, the museum also shows twenty-seven escapement models by master watchmaker Karl Geitz , the founder of the Hessian watchmaking school . Construction drawings and explanatory texts are available for each of the models.
