The Museum of the Rockies is a natural history museum owned by Montana State University and the Smithsonian Institution in Bozeman . The museum is home to one of the largest collections of dinosaurs in the United States. It is also the official collection point of the state of Montana. It was founded in 1957 on the basis of a foundation by Caroline McGill.

It is also home to ethnographic and Montana history collections, including a museum village called Tinsley House , a 19th-century farmhouse from Willow Creek, Montana that was moved behind the museum in 1989. The museum also houses a planetarium.

The dinosaurs also include a full Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton and the largest Tyrannosaurus rex skull. Visitors can watch the taxidermists of dinosaur fossils at work in the museum. Jack Horner is the curator for paleontology .
