Trivia

The work Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance (original title: Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance) by the American author Robert M. Pirsig from 1974, which has sold millions of copies worldwide over decades , made the university and Bozeman known to a large readership. Pirsig's alter ego Phaedrus reflects, among other things, his memories as a teacher and researcher, whose philosophical findings are largely due to his teaching there.
