The Muttiah Muralitharan International Cricket Stadium or Pallekele International Cricket Stadium is a cricket stadium in Pallekele, Kandy , Sri Lanka . It was inaugurated in 2009 and has a capacity of 35,000 spectators. It was named after Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan in 2010 . Since December 2010, the stadium has been a test stadium for home games for the Sri Lankan national cricket team.

One-day cricket

The first major tournament to be played in this stadium was the 2011 Cricket World Cup , with three preliminary round matches taking place here.

Test cricket

As the 104th test cricket stadium worldwide, the game of the Sri Lankan team against the West Indies was played here as the first test in December 2010 .

Twenty20

In 2012, the ICC World Twenty20 played three preliminary and six intermediate round matches in this stadium.
