Muzeul Satului Vâlcea ( Village Museum Vâlcea ) is an open-air museum on an area of 8 ha not far from Drum național 7 in the village of Bujoreni , Vâlcea County in Little Wallachia , Romania .

The museum was founded in 1969 and opened in 1974. It is the reconstruction of a traditional rural settlement with all its social and cultural facilities. It shows almost 80 buildings and around 120,000 exhibits. Special exhibits are the Bogdan inn from 1889, schools from the early 20th century and farmhouses up to 200 years old with their fountains and gates.

Sections of the museum

The central area of the museum is that of the farms, which demonstrates different traditional occupations in agriculture: grain growing, orchards, viticulture and cattle breeding in the mountains. For all these forms of agriculture, houses from the respective part of the district of Vâlcea have been transferred to the museum. Particularly noteworthy are the houses with towers from the Horezu region. There are also various agricultural outbuildings.

The second area is made up of socio-cultural and public buildings: a 20th century primary school, a wooden church, a swing and, in the future, a village town hall.

In the handicraft area, techniques for extracting raw materials from plant fibers and from the hair and skin of animals are shown. There are workshops from the 19th and 20th centuries for pottery, carpentry and goat hair processing.

The fourth area shows buildings from the edge of the village and from the mountains: beehives, chapels, border springs, a mansion of a vineyard, etc. The interior decoration of all buildings with frescoes, rustic furniture and many furnishings made of wood and metal is also remarkable.

The museum's wooden churches

A special feature of the museum are three wooden churches that have been transferred to the museum: The wooden church of Mrenești from 1771 , consecrated to Our Lady, from the place of the same name was transferred to the museum in 2003. The wooden church Mângureni dates from 1888 and is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. The oldest of the three churches is the unusually old St. Nicholas Church Angheleşti-Cărpiniş from 1655 for wooden churches . It was transferred to the museum in 2009 from the former village of Angheleşti , but may have been moved earlier. The polygonal church consists of different components with different widths.
