Myodesis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In addition to myoplasty, myodesis is one of the two common surgical techniques used to cover the stump during an amputation , for example of the upper or lower leg.

In myodesis, the stumps of the severed muscles are anchored directly to the bone using drill channels, thereby allowing better and dislocation-safe muscular coverage of the bone end.

The technique goes back to the surgeon M. Weiss, who introduced it in the 1960s.
